Job Description: |
The Biomedical Engineer will play a critical role in the planning, selection, and integration of medical equipment during the hospital\'s design and construction phases. Post-commissioning, the engineer will manage the Biomedical Engineering Department, ensuring the proper functioning, maintenance, and safety of all medical equipment. This individual will collaborate with various hospital departments, vendors, and contractors to optimize the hospital\'s medical technology infrastructure and ensure high standards of patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Hospital Planning & Medical Equipment Procurement:
- Medical Equipment Planning: Participate in the hospital\'s planning and design phase, ensuring that the selected medical equipment aligns with clinical and operational needs.
- Vendor Selection & Management: Evaluate and select medical equipment vendors, ensuring the best technical and financial solutions for the hospital.
- Budgeting & Procurement: Assist in the budgeting process for medical equipment, ensuring cost-effective purchases while maintaining high-quality standards.
- Installation & Integration: Working closely with the construction team and to ensure the pre-installation work for the medical equipment are executed as per the manufacturer/supplier recommendation ex: Electrical/MEP/IT and HVAC are in place as per the medical equipment shop drawings, prior to the arrival of medical equipment. Furthermore, oversee the installation, testing, acceptance and commissioning of all medical devices and equipment during the construction and commissioning phases of the hospital.
- Compliance & Standards: Ensure that all equipment selected meets international and local standards for medical devices (e.g., FDA, Joint Commission, CE, ISO certifications).
Post-Commissioning Operations:
- Department Management: Lead the Biomedical Engineering Department to oversee the maintenance, calibration, and performance of all medical equipment in the hospital.
- Preventive Maintenance Program: Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule to ensure that all equipment remains in optimal working condition with reduced down time and enhanced safety.
- Troubleshooting & Repairs: Manage troubleshooting, repair, and technical support for medical equipment to minimize downtime and ensure continuous patient care.
- Compliance & Safety: Ensure all equipment is compliant with safety regulations and relevant health authorities, conducting regular audits and inspections.
- Training & Support: Provide training to clinical staff on the proper use of medical equipment and stay updated with new technological advancements.
- Inventory & Asset Management: Maintain a comprehensive inventory of all medical equipment, ensuring efficient management and replacement planning.
Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Clinical Team Liaison: Collaborate with clinical teams to understand equipment needs and operational requirements. Serve as a technical consultant to hospital leadership and medical staff on the use and management of biomedical equipment.
- Collaboration with Facilities Management: Work closely with the facilities management team to ensure smooth integration of medical equipment with hospital infrastructure.
- Contract Management: Manage service contracts with external vendors and suppliers for equipment maintenance, repairs, and upgrades.
- Collaboration with Procurement Teams: Work closely with procurement teams to negotiate contracts with equipment vendors and ensure cost-effective purchasing decisions.
Risk Management:
- Develop and manage a risk management program for medical devices including conducting risk assessments, failure mode analysis and incident investigations related to equipment failures.
- Ensure timely resolution of equipment related issues that impact patient care or safety.
- Coordinate with legal and compliance teams in the event of regulatory audits or investigations involving biomedical equipment.
Research & Development:
- Technology Assessment: Stay up to date with the latest biomedical technologies and innovations, ensuring the hospital is equipped with cutting-edge medical devices which ultimately supports the hospital’s mission.
- Innovation in Healthcare Delivery: Propose new technology solutions that enhance patient care, operational efficiency, and safety.
Skills and Competencies:
- Knowledge of the latest trends in medical devices and hospital technologies.
- Strong technical expertise in troubleshooting and maintaining a wide variety of medical equipment.

The total built-up area of all facilities developed will be in excess of 590,000 square feet -- Novacare, once fully staffed and ramped up, will employ over 1,600 team members, including ~170 consulting physicians, ~600 nurses, and ~300 allied health professionals. The total investment across the facilities is expected to be in excess of PKR 35 bn.
