The Lab Technologist – Blood Banking is responsible for performing routine and specialized tests related to blood grouping, crossmatching, component preparation, and transfusion services. The role ensures the safe, accurate, and timely processing of blood products in compliance with quality standards and regulatory guidelines.

Key Responsibilities:

• Perform ABO and Rh blood grouping, antibody screening, and compatibility testing (crossmatching) for transfusion purposes.

• Process donor blood units, including centrifugation and preparation of components (RBCs, platelets, plasma).

• Ensure proper labeling, storage, and inventory management of blood and blood products.

• Maintain and monitor daily records of blood testing, donor screening, and product usage.

• Conduct infectious disease screening tests (HIV, HCV, HBV, Syphilis, Malaria) as per standard protocols.

• Ensure all procedures comply with standard operating procedures (SOPs), safety guidelines, and accreditation standards.

• Assist in the coordination and organization of blood donation drives.

• Calibrate and maintain equipment used in blood banking and report any malfunctions promptly.

• Participate in internal and external quality control programs.

• Ensure accurate documentation and data entry in laboratory information systems.

• Follow biohazard and waste disposal protocols strictly.

Qualifications and Skills:

• BS in Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent 

• Certification in Blood Banking or Transfusion Medicine is preferred.

• Minimum 1–3 years of relevant experience in a hospital or blood bank setting.

• Knowledge of blood group serology, immunohematology, and transfusion protocols.

• Proficient in using laboratory instruments and equipment related to blood banking.

• Attention to detail with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

• Good communication skills and the ability to work under pressure in emergency situations.

• Willingness to work in shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays as required.
