The Communication Officer will play a key role in supporting the School Meal Program by developing and executing impactful communication strategies. This position is responsible for enhancing the visibility and outreach of the program through effective content creation, social media management, and coordination with media outlets. The Communication Officer will showcase the program’s achievements, engage stakeholders, and contribute to promoting awareness of its positive impact on children's education, nutrition, and well-being.
Documentation and Content Creation
- Capture high-quality photographs and videos of program activities, beneficiaries, and events to visually document the impact of the School Meal Program.
- Develop compelling case studies and human-interest stories that highlight key achievements, success narratives, and the positive outcomes of the program on children and communities.
- Assist in drafting, editing, and proofreading content for reports, newsletters, brochures, presentations, and other communication materials to effectively convey the program’s progress, challenges, and results to stakeholders.
- Ensure that all visual and written content aligns with the organization’s branding guidelines and communication objectives.
Media and Public Relations
- Assist in coordinating media coverage and public relations initiatives to enhance public awareness and support for the School Meal Program.
- Support the planning and execution of media-related events, including press conferences, field visits, photo opportunities, and other public engagements.
- Maintain and regularly update a comprehensive media contact list to facilitate timely dissemination of information.
- Contribute to the drafting, review, and distribution of press releases, media briefs, and official statements to ensure consistent and accurate communication.
- Monitor media coverage related to the School Meal Program and prepare regular media analysis reports to inform communication strategies.
Internal and External Communication
- Ensure timely and accurate communication with the Programme Manager, Communication Manager, and relevant team members to align communication strategies and ensure consistency across all channels.
- Prepare and disseminate internal newsletters, bulletins, and updates to keep staff and stakeholders informed about key activities, milestones, and achievements of the School Meal Program.
- Assist in the development, design, and maintenance of communication materials such as brochures, flyers, posters, and other outreach tools, ensuring they are up-to-date, informative, and visually engaging.
- Support the coordination of communication between field teams and central offices to facilitate the smooth flow of information and feedback.
Coordination and Communication
- Coordinate with WFP, the Education Department, and other relevant technical line departments to ensure alignment and collaboration on communication-related activities of the School Meal Program.
- Maintain regular and effective communication with both internal teams and external stakeholders to facilitate information sharing and joint planning.
- Develop and nurture strong working relationships with key partners, government counterparts, and stakeholders to support program visibility, advocacy, and implementation efforts.
- Represent the communication component of the School Meal Program in coordination meetings and joint initiatives as required.
Social Media and Online Presence
- Support the management of the program’s social media accounts by creating, scheduling, and posting engaging, relevant, and child-friendly content.
- Monitor and analyze social media metrics, engagement trends, and audience feedback to assess the effectiveness of campaigns and refine strategies accordingly.
- Assist in regularly updating the School Meal Program’s section on the organization’s website with fresh content, including news updates, success stories, event highlights, and multimedia materials such as photos and videos.
- Ensure all online content reflects the organization’s communication standards and brand guidelines.
Monitoring and Reporting
- Maintain well-organized and up-to-date records and archives of all communication materials, including photographs, videos, case studies, newsletters, and success stories.
- Assist in monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness, reach, and impact of communication activities, including digital and offline content, and provide recommendations for improvement.
- Prepare and submit regular progress reports to the Programme Manager and Communication Manager, summarizing key communication outputs, milestones achieved, challenges faced, and planned activities.
- Contribute to donor reporting by providing communication highlights and visibility materials as required.
Capacity Building
- Provide training, guidance, and ongoing support to program staff on effective communication practices, including basic photography, storytelling, and use of digital tools and platforms.
- Promote a culture of communication within the program team by encouraging staff to actively contribute to content creation, including sharing field updates, photos, and beneficiary stories.
- Develop simple communication toolkits or guidelines for staff to ensure consistency and quality in messaging and visual documentation.
